Year-Round Activities at Wissahickon Valley Park

With summer coming to an end, temperatures are cooling and creating the perfect atmosphere for outdoor activities. Just eight minutes from our Spring Mill apartments Wissahickon Valley Park invites visitors to enjoy the great outdoors throughout the year.

Over 1.1 million people visit every year to explore <Wissahickon Valley Park's dense forests, shaded creeks, and open meadows. Some of the best outdoor activities include:

HIKING

With over 50 miles of trails, it's no wonder the park is a well-known hiking destination. Hikers find it hard to believe they're still within city limits, and nearly two dozen historical and geological sites are located along the upper paths. Those looking for a challenge will want to try the Orange Trail. It spans over five miles and features a rugged terrain that may be difficult for inexperienced trail hikers.

FISHING

The Wissahickon Creek is a designated Commonwealth Inland Water. This means it offers an extended fishing season. The creek is perfect for both spin and fly fishing, and anglers can catch species such as bass, trout, and sunfish.

BIRD WATCHING

The park's mixed habitat draws over 200 bird species. It's designated as an Important Bird Area by the Pennsylvania Audubon and attracts birdwatchers from across the country.

Some of the bird species include:

Indigo Bunting Great Blue Heron Pileated Woodpecker
